Climbing ropes are long, thin cords (usually around 9 to 11 millimeters in diameter) that stretch when they absorb the energy generated when a climber falls. Weight of climbing ropes

In 1932, the UIAA was created as a non-governmental organization to represent mountaineering, climbing, and caving. These activities fall under the categories of nature conservation, environmental protection, safety, and mountain sports. The UIAA test includes technical rules for climbing ropes.

The test evaluates Climbing Rope with two types of tests: “UIAA Falls” and the Climbing Ropes “Impact Force”. Climbing ropes must be able to resist at least five UIAA standard falls before breaking. It is also necessary that climbing ropes do not exceed a certain level of impact force, to avoid damage to the climber’s equipment or injury.

In the past, there were very few standards or certifications for climbing equipment. The UIAA (International Climbing and Mountaineering Federation) standardizes climbing ropes. Ropes can receive three types of certification: general use, mountaineering, and dry.
